Veteran watch fans may know that the early version of VS Seamaster 300 used the Seagull 2824 movement with a decorative cover plate. Later, the factory replaced it with the Dandong integrated movement and removed the fake plate structure. We will share an after-sales case to explain the reason for this upgrade.
Many people wonder why old replica watches adopted decorative cover plates. The original movement is extremely costly and hard to install. Manufacturers added an extra decorative plate on the domestic movement. The appearance imitates the original movement. When you view through the case back, it looks much closer to the genuine one. That is the purpose of the decorative fake plate.However, this design has an unavoidable drawback. Small parts on the cover plate may fall off. Once the loose pieces drop into the movement, they can jam the gears and stop the watch completely. This returned old Seamaster we are checking today suffered exactly this fault.
When we opened the case back, we found the jewel at the shock absorber position had fallen out. The detached component got stuck inside the movement and stopped the watch. To fix it, watchmakers have to fully disassemble, clean and reassemble the whole movement. It is a troublesome repair and the most typical failure for this fake plate movement.
This is an older generation model. The new version VS Seamaster 300 is equipped with Dandong 8800 integrated movement. The extra decorative plate is removed. It eliminates the risk of loose plate parts jamming the movement. The reliability is greatly improved, and the after-sales rate is much lower.
Tip: If your mechanical watch stops working, do not shake or wind it forcefully. Loose fragments may scratch gears. Please send it to a professional watch repairer.
